Ponderings on Humanity, Wilderness and other Stories of Africa

 Stories of Africa is a collection of writings from my experiences of over fifty years wandering Africa. Adventure, humour, some serious, together with stories for children of all ages scribbled in countless notebooks and scrap paper

 During my guiding years I carried a camera with me whenever possible, not only to get great images but to record the wilderness. I have put together a collection of my most memorable photos - not neccessarily my best images 

 A chance unearthing of a possible early Stone Age tool-making site, where numerous Acheulean hand axes and more were found included the discoveries of several shaped stones, including some that appear to be parts of tools. 

What are you looking for in your private guide in Africa? With over 40 years of experience in guiding, training, lodge management and conservation in Africa I have buit an in-depth knowledge and appreciation for Africa. 

 'Old friend, I sure wish we were perched around a campfire at the end of a God-forsaken desert track, where others before have turned back. But then again perhaps we are, … just without the campfire'. 

  As a species we should be moving towards reconciling with each other and with nature – but what I see is the exact opposite. Yet, despite all the negativity ​​I am still Inspired​  and see the rise of a new understanding for humanity out of Africa.
